MOSI Launches Always Above on National Space Day

TAMPA, FL (May 2, 2025) – To celebrate National Space Day, Tampa's Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) is launching something big—literally. Always Above, a brand-new immersive film from the U.S. Space Force, makes its debut today inside MOSI’s all-new Digital Dome Theatre.

Created in partnership with production companies Scholar and GSD&M, and distributed by BIG & Digital, Always Above is a 12-minute documentary that explores the evolving role of space in our everyday lives. From communication and navigation to national security and weather forecasting, the film reveals how modern life is deeply connected to the systems orbiting just above our heads—and the people who protect them.

“Space has always been a source of wonder and immense interest for the American people,” said General Chance Saltzman, Chief of Space Operations for the U.S. Space Force. “But the new challenges we face, and the extent to which our daily lives now rely on the domain, require us to think about it differently.”

Audiences will journey from the depths of Earth’s oceans to thousands of miles into space as they learn about the different types of satellites and the orbits they occupy. The film also offers a rare glimpse into the daily mission of Space Force Guardians—military and civilian personnel who operate 24/7 to ensure the safety and security of America’s space assets.

Florida plays a central role in this mission. Located near Melbourne, Patrick Space Force Base is one of the Space Force’s most critical operational hubs, home to a significant number of the 9,400 active-duty Guardians.

“Always Above is an outstanding example of how we can inspire and educate the next generation of innovators, problem solvers and dreamers about the critical role space plays in our daily lives,” said Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force John Bentivegna.

The film’s release on National Space Day underscores its message: space is not a distant frontier—it’s an essential part of modern life, closer than we think, and more important than ever.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at mosi.org or at the MOSI Box Office. Screening is included in MOSI admission. Guests select their dome showtime upon arrival, and seating is subject to availability. Early arrival is recommended, especially on weekends.
