It’s National Astronaut Day, But You Don’t Have to Leave Earth to Explore What’s Next

TAMPA, FL (May 5, 2026) – As excitement builds around the next era of space exploration, MOSI, Tampa’s Museum of Science & Innovation is giving you a way to get closer to that dream—no rocket required—announcing its newest exhibit today, on National Astronaut Day.

MOSI’s “Above and Beyond” exhibit opens May 16, bringing the future of flight and space exploration down to Earth

This limited-time, hands-on aerospace experience takes visitors from the Wright brothers’ first flight to the possibilities of tomorrow. Above and Beyond blends imagination, engineering, and exploration in a way that puts you in the pilot’s seat.

“At MOSI, we want to spark the kind of curiosity that leads to big ideas,” said MOSI CEO John Graydon Smith. “Right now, there’s so much excitement around space and exploration. This exhibit gives everyone a new, hands-on way to capture that energy and enthusiasm.”

The journey begins in a wraparound immersive theater before opening into four interactive galleries: Up, Faster, Higher, and Smarter, each designed to turn big ideas into real experiences.

Design and test your own supersonic jet, explore a giant multitouch timeline and interactive simulations, and experience what it feels like to soar in formation with your friends and family.

Created in collaboration with Boeing, NASA, and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Above and Beyond connects the wonder of discovery with the real-world innovations shaping the future of aerospace.

Above and Beyond will be included with MOSI admission and will only touch down in Tampa for a limited time.
