MOSI is Now a Part of The Classic Board Game: Monopoly
‘Get ready to pass go’: These landmarks are on the new ‘Tampa Edition’ of Monopoly
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Get ready to pass go and collect excitement. Tampa is hitting the board game scene with its own edition of Monopoly.
Locals don’t have to pass “go” and collect $200, or go to jail for that matter, for a chance to enjoy a new board game representation of their hometown.
“I think it’s capturing the essence of our destination in many ways, not just with attractions, but also with businesses that make Tampa their home. So, I think they’ve done a fantastic job of capturing the essence of Tampa, Hillsborough County,” President of Visit Tampa Bay Santiago Corrada said.
There have been countless variations of Monopoly and now Tampa is getting its own edition.
Landmarks and local experiences featured on the board include Gasparilla, Bayshore Boulevard, Ybor City, downtown Tampa, the Florida Aquarium, Raymond James Stadium, Davis Islands Beach, Curtis Hixon Park, Lettuce Lake, Sykes Plaza, the zoo, the streetcar and paddleboarding,“Other than landmarks, we got a lot of great parks. Of course, you’re going to see organizations from every sector, right. Cool attractions and things, and really the best compliment for us is for locals to open the game and be like, you nailed it,” Regional MONOPOLY Game Manager Tim Barney said.
Barney said the process of creating the game has been in the works for nearly a year. Along with Tampa streets and business, the community chest and chance cards tie back to the area.
“We put them through the ringer, we want to know that they’ve got credibility in the community, longevity. You know, they’ve been around, so they’re going to be around for a while, and community engagement, which is the most important to me, which is that they are involved with the community outside of their own four walls,” Barney said.
Tampa Edition Monopoly is now available in all authorized retail stores.
