PHASE I - BEGINNING OF LIFE TO ADOLESCENCE

The first phase of The Amazing You consists of 3 developmental life stages: beginning of life, childhood, and adolescence.

Given the educational nature of exhibits within The Amazing You, some material may be inappropriate for young children. Parental discretion is advised.

The Beginning of Life
This developmental life stage is about the “miracle” of human beginnings – when life creates life, and the common experience of coming into the world . In this section, view a fetus with a whole new perspective by interacting with a simulated fetal ultrasound or experiencing “the outside world” from a fetus’ point of view. Also, learn about healthy pregnancy choices, preterm infants, and even try on a pregnancy suit for size.

Childhood
Revisit your childlike curiosity, where the world is a mystery. Remember wondering about basic bodily functions? Well this stage also covers some of those “gross” human body issues like poop, vomit, and boogers. Ewwww!

Also, learn about basic things like speech, language, and the senses – sight, smell, hearing, touch, taste including non-standard senses. Interact with the mini exhibits in this stage by taking an advanced hearing test, looking through microscopes, participating in a large-scale version of the classic children's board game, “Operation” board game.

Adolescence
Chaotic, emotional, and pivotal all describe the adolescence stage of life. So, this stage explores topics such as sexual maturation, sexual function, body image, body modification and self-esteem, peer pressure, teen risky behaviors and drug and alcohol issues. Some activities include the STD Game, Healthy-wood Squares, Age Yourself and a driving simulator. In order to provide a fully engaging, honest and original portrayal of these topics, the Adolescence life stage may contain experiences that require parental advisory.
